Global Debut – ‘Up On The Roof’ by Shanti in DSD 256

Shanti teamed up with Amphion to record a live to DSD 256 session at Onkio Haus Tokyo

The Back Story: Filmed by Nick Clegg (Sound Factory, Yokohama) at the prestigious Onkio Haus Studios in central Tokyo, singer/songwriter Shanti Snyder and keyboardist/producer Philip Woo recorded the Goffin/King classic “Up On The Roof” to an audience of 30 engineers as part of an interactive Amphion demo and seminar experience. The gear-setup comprised an Avid Pro Tools HD, Pyramix DSD recorder, Neumann U47, M149 and NU47 mic, and recorded, mixed, and mastered through Amphion Two18 monitors.

Shanti Snyder: Based in Japan, Shanti is a renowned singer, lyricist, and composer. Versatile in styling jazz standards to tear-jerking original folk ballads, Shanti is loved for her soothing velvet voice. She is known worldwide from the song “Sora” from the Anime Movie “Visions of Eskaflowne”, “Inner Universe” from “Ghost in the Shell”, and her collaborations with composers such as Yoko Kanno. A respected Japanese Jazz | Pop solo recording artist, she is often compared with Norah Jones, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and a young Ella Fitzgerald.

Fast-forward to 2018: After her successful JUN 22, 2018 release of a cover of “Up On The Roof” (Written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King), singer, lyricist, and composer Shanti speaks with veteran DJ Kamasami Kong on her Japan #1 Hit – a joint-production effort by Amphion Loudspeakers and Onkio Haus Studios recorded in Tokyo on NOV 18, 2017. In this 10 minute interview, filmed at the famous Ritz-Carlton in Tokyo, Shanti gives us the back-story behind the recording, and shares with us how Amphion was a critical component in the creative process.
